Call for Advisory Committee Applicants!

This is an exciting time for the NICA Virginia Interscholastic Cycling League! After experiencing a 90% growth from the 2017 to the 2018 season, the future is extremely bright! In response to our growth, as well as a desire within the Virginia league for an expansion of leadership, we are creating the Virginia League’s first Advisory Committee.

The Committee’s overarching goal will be to help promote the sustainability of the Virginia NICA League by assessing and providing direct input regarding management of league growth, ensuring adequate development, and conducting outreach. This Committee will play a significant role in crafting and executing the future direction of the Virginia League. The Committee shall be made up of eight (8) members, the Virginia League Director, and the Virginia Chief Course Marshal/Director of Risk Management (10 total members). Four of these members (Regional Committee Members) will be elected from NICA licensed coaches from four geographical regions within Virginia (see map below). The remaining four members shall be selected by the Virginia League Director, the NICA President, and the four elected Regional Committee Members.

The elected, Regional Committee Members will serve as a liaison between their regional stakeholders (coaches, student-athletes, parents, etc) and the Advisory Committee.

Applicants interested in serving as Regional Committee Members need to be actively registered in the NICA Pit Zone and have one season of League experience. If interested in serving on this Advisory Committee, please complete and submit the form by Friday, December 21, 2018. Candidate names and applications shall be shared with all Virginia licensed coaches on January 7, 2019, for review and selection through a regional voting process. Following application review, each team director will submit one name from the list of candidates from the region within which the team resides. It is each team’s responsibility to decide how they shall conduct voting within the team to make this selection. Team directors must email andrea@virginiamtb.org no later than January 21, 2019 with the name of the candidate they support. Votes shall be tallied and Regional Committee Members shall be announced on January 24, 2019. In the event of a tie vote, the names of the candidates that received the same number of votes shall be re-shared with the region and the teams from that region shall vote again. In the case of a second tie, the League Director, the NICA President, and the other elected regional committee members shall vote.

The four elected Regional Committee Members shall meet with the League Director and converse with the NICA President the week of January 28th to discuss and select the 4 additional Committee Members. These 4 Committee Members do not have to be active in Pit Zone at the time of selection, but upon selection need to become Pit Zone compliant. The Virginia League shall cover any costs associated with this.
